I have a confession to make. I’m done chasing status, at least status that I have to do X in order to get Y, when Y is subject to availability.
Right now, I am guaranteed via my credit cards lounge access, free checked bags with JetBlue and Delta, Hilton Gold, Marriott Gold, IHG Platinum Elite, a free annual night at an IHG, and the Delta Companion Certificate.
I don’t have to do anything other than hold the cards to get that. And because of that, I’m not playing a guessing game on if I’m getting an upgrade or if I’m getting this or that. I’m just guaranteed to have it. And honestly, at this point of my travel game, I much rather take something that’s lower status and guaranteed than a higher status by availability.
I’m much rather buy exactly what I want. I’m gonna get the perks off of my car coming, and if anything is added on top of that, think about it like a cherry on top of ice cream. Not mandatory, but definitely a sweet treat when it’s there.
For a lot of people, I’m not sure if it’s actually worth the hunting that you’re doing. So this is not me telling you that status doesn’t matter, but I am telling you maybe take a look at what you’re actually getting from status versus what they’re pitching with status. Because the chasm between that can be the difference between an enjoyable vacation and one that’s subject to availability.
Until next time, safe travels.
